What works, what we are working on, what we won’t do. Updated with each release; discuss it in GitHub Discussions.

Topos is used in production at Douze Dix-Huit. Priorities come from the stage, not from a feature list — if something below matters to your venue, say so.

  • 2D / 3D trilateration with Kalman filtering, ~10 cm after calibration, 12.5 Hz
  • 3 to 8 anchors (MaUWB ESP32-S3, WiFi captive portal or USB), up to 64 tags (MaUWB Direct)
  • Venue calibration from laser-meter distances in millimetres; antenna-delay tuning
  • Outputs: PSN v2.03, OSC, ADM-OSC, WebSocket; coordinate presets aligned with Capture
  • Dashboard: named performers, ghost mode, presets per venue, persisted state
  • --simulate, --record / --replay, relay between two Topos instances
  • Printable anchor cases (OpenSCAD + STL)

Setup and configuration. The five-minute goal is not met yet. A series of improvements was identified after the first production runs — fewer steps from unboxing to the first tracked point, less to type, better defaults. They will land as individual issues.

Art-Net, rethought. Driving moving heads directly from Topos (fixture definitions, pan/tilt solving, DMX output) proved unreliable on stage, even though it worked through Soma. Managing fixtures multiplies error layers and is not the job of a spatial translator. Under review: reduce Topos to what it does well — positions, over PSN/OSC — and leave fixture control to the console or to Soma. Nothing is removed until a path is clear.

Dashboard in English. The dashboard is in French today (DÉVERROUILLER, CALIBRER, FACE / LOINTAIN). With a multilingual site come multilingual users.

Hardware. A reference case iteration validated by print tests, documented print settings, a tag case.

Documentation. French and Chinese translations of the guide on topos.red; short videos: tracking in five minutes, laser-meter calibration.

  • MQTT output (declared in the config, not implemented)
  • Tag battery level in the dashboard
  • More anchor geometries validated in real venues — your venue reports decide this
  • Proprietary protocols. Open protocols only (PSN, OSC, ADM-OSC, Art-Net, WebSocket).
  • Rendering, cue stacks, show control. Topos observes; your tools act.
  • Custom electronics. Off-the-shelf modules and printed cases, so anyone can build one.
